A History of Sustenance
The Fraser Valley has always been a great provider. The first settlers in the area were the Sto:lo people, who fished, hunted and logged in and around the Fraser River and it’s tributaries. They still do today.
The first European to explore the Valley was its namesake, Simon Fraser in 1808. By 1827, the Hudson's Bay Company had established a fur trading post in the Valley at Ft. Langley. To provide food for its employees, the first farm was established nearby. This made Langley the first major agricultural centre in British Columbia.
